WELCOME.... My practice is called Conversations with Amy... the reason is that I want our time together to feel like you are having a conversation with a close trusted friend. I always want my clients to feel seen and heard without judgment. I blend honesty, kindness, humor and lightheartedness to explore your "humanness" in a compassionate way... sometimes we have to laugh our way through our tears and pain... other time we may need to have someone just sit with us... every experience is different and valid. As a therapist I am eclectic in the way I gather information to learn who you are, however my approach to life as a therapist and human is "Solution Focused". I want to help you discover what is keeping you from having a life that you love and brings you joy and peace! What I mean by “Solution Focused” is that I have an innate ability to identify behaviors, patterns, thoughts and beliefs that contribute to your lack of meaningful change with humor and kindness. My background, in short, I am a LMHC-QS based in Florida, I have an AA in Sociology, BS in HR Admin and a MS in Counseling from NSU. I have been practicing as a therapist for over 10 years. I have spent majority of my life dedicated to helping other people experience happiness and peace.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. Together we will develop a plan to reach milestones towards your goal for meaningful change. We will hit these milestones are your pace, there will be some ebb and flow as therapy is not a linear process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My role as a therapist is to support you in identifying and reaching YOUR goals. I strive to create an environment where you feel safe to be totally transparent with your thoughts and feelings without judgment. That will allow us to accurately identify patterns of thoughts, behaviors and emotional reactions that are no longer serving you and develop new patterns that are aligned with your current life goals. I am skilled at identifying these patterns, how they are inter-related and show up in all areas of your life. As we identify these patterns, we can develop strategies that better serve who you are now and where you want to go in the future.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

What you can expect from me, I may be an "excuse buster" at times, I may bring to light patterns of behavior or emotional reactions that no longer serve you, I will certainly encourage you to take steps toward meaningful change that may be outside your comfort zone. Change is why you are here, change can be difficult and uncomfortable, my role is to support you through this journey.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

What you can expect from me, I utilize DBT tools for identifying and shifting unhelpful thinking habits to a more compassionate perspective. DBT tools are super easy and quick ways of getting out of our "box of feelings" when you feel like your emotions are controlling you. Sometimes this happens when we have unresolved "hurt" that gets pulled up to the surface during a current event. Your emotional response may be disproportional to the current situation. Example - If you were bullied as a teen and called "stupid", you may find yourself in a situation where someone calls you "stupid" in present day. The situation may warrant a level 3-4 reaction, however, that pain and hurt from your teen years bubbles up and you are reacting at a 7-8.

Motivational Interviewing

What you can expect from me, I ask lots of question for a variety of reasons; to get to know you, learn about how you see the world around you, how you interact with yourself and others. This information helps us to identify the root cause of your dysregulation. Often times the presenting dysregulation is the result of the ripple effect of an event that may not seem related on the surface.

Positive Psychology

What you can expect from me, I use positive psychology to understand how you show up in the world and how that impacts you emotionally. I will teach you strategies to elevate your mood and improve your perspective of the world.

Brainspotting

What you can expect from me, I use Brainspotting to help with processing areas where you feel stuck, struggle with anxiety and/or traumatic experiences. This is a great tool in general and especially if you do not have in-depth recall or words to fully express you experiences. This similar to EMDR, however this focuses on one area at a time.
