Hi there, I'm Lorrie. I'm so glad you are reaching out for help. That's a huge first step, and often the hardest part of your journey to health and happiness. I work with trauma, anxiety, stress, overwhelm, and relationship issues. If you are dealing with difficult emotions and can't seem to stop worrying about the future or ruminating about the past, I can help! My approach to therapy is holistic, addressing the needs of your mind, body and spirit. In our first session you can expect to learn more about somatic therapies, and other mind-body bridging practices. By the end of the session you will have some tools you can start using right away. We will work together to identify your goals for therapy and create a treatment plan just for you. I specialize in treatments that get you grounded, with a sense of safety, acceptance of what is, and curiosity and excitement about what could be! Before I became a therapist, I was a yoga and mindfulness educator for 30+ years. I bring my expertise in mindfulness, meditation and breath work into every session treating mind, body and spirit. What ever your mental health challenge, I'm here to help. Seeking out, and then showing up for therapy can be hard, but you are making the right choice! We'll work together using evidence-based techniques that are proven to help you manage your struggles and heal your trauma. I hope we connect soon and get you started on a path to healing and happiness right away.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I love ACT therapy! Using this therapeutic intervention, we can learn to cultivate a different kind of relationship with our minds. We learn that we HAVE a mind, and we have the ability to defuse or detach from our ruminating thoughts and negative internal dialogues. ACT helps us to accept our emotions instead of struggling with them and live a more stress free life. ACT is also effective working with all kinds of trauma, from childhood to relationship abuse.

Mind-body approach

I bring over 30 years of expertise in mindfulness and yoga into each and every session. Understanding the connection between our mind and body is essential to holistic healing. Yoga is not about putting yourself into a pretzel shape, as a matter of fact, many aspects of Yoga have nothing to do with physical exercise. Its all about learning to quiet the mind

EMDR

I use several types of exposure therapy when helping clients to process trauma. EMDR is an effective way to process trauma that has been stored away in the recesses of the mind, sometimes for years. EMDR is a gentle exposure therapy that does not necessarily require recalling every little painful detail of your trauma. EMDR allows your mind to do what it does, process memories while you connect with the observer aspect of yourself.

Trauma Informed Care

We have learned so much more about trauma than we use to know. We have also learned more about our brain's ability to rewire itself to heal. Our mind is a conglomeration of thoughts, emotions, memories, stories and beliefs. Understanding the nature of the mind, we learn that just because we have a thought or belief, doesn't make it true. Every therapeutic approach I offer is trauma informed. You will learn about how the mind affects the body, and visa versa.

Psychoeducation

The more we understand about how our mind works, the nature of thoughts and their effects on our mind/body complex, the more effective we become in making the desired changes we seek in our life. You will learn to cultivate an observer aspect of self that gives you the freedom to create new thought and behavior patterns that are in line with your values and the life that you desire.
