My approach is first to get to know you and your place in the world, to help you feel comfortable with me, and to learn about what has you seeking therapy. I deeply and intuitively listen. Use all my knowledge and life experience to help guide my clients out of suffering. My mission is to support my clients in becoming resilient in the face of this wild and crazy world so that we might all leave it a better place than we found it.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After the house keeping aspects like informed consent; I want to get know you and your life, what is causing you suffering and how I can help? It is also a time for you to ask me any questions you might have.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am flexible, adaptable, and funny, my use of humor and metaphors often help my clients remember our discussions making it more likely the changes they want to make will stick! I am smart enough to know when I am right and when I am wrong. I believe in creating a balanced and equal relationship with my clients.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I like to meet people where they are at, express empathy and deeply listen as best I can is the basic foundation of the person centered approach. This includes understanding you in the context of your life, your lived experience and honoring both the individual, universal and how the forces of society can affect this human condition.

Psychodynamic

The psychodynamic approach encompasses psychological theories that conceptualize human functioning as influenced by the interplay of internal drives and forces, with a focus on the unconscious mind and the dynamic interactions among various structures of the personality. Basically, this is about helping you get to know yourself and how your mind came to work the way it does which then creates space to reshape your internal drives and forces as to reduce the suffering you may experience when these unconscious forces are in control by making them conscious.

Eclectic

While I primarily lean into person centered and psychodynamic approaches I also understand an use concepts from CBT, DBT, somatic experiencing, Mindfulness Self Compassion, Gestalt, Art and more depending on what my clients and I discuss and which I am confident I can employ.
