Are you tired of the struggle? The struggle to even get up and get through the day? Or the struggle to keep a lid on your emotions out of fear? Are you tired of worry? Tired of being haunted by memories? Is anxiety and/or depression presenting you with more struggles? Are you struggling to find a path in life? Do you feel as if you're not living up to your full potential in your career or relationships? I help people realize that the struggle itself is sometimes worse than what we are struggling against; and that the struggle can then become the main problem. The struggle can hide real solutions to those problems. The struggle becomes more important. The "struggle is real." With an understanding of how we can get into these habits of struggle, and with evidence-based mindfulness practices to help us respond rather than react (the struggle), you absolutely can lead a rich and full life. I'll help you find this path. Working together we can get through (or around), the struggle and move forward on a valued path - rather than one that emphasizes the need to avoid and control problems that life inevitably presents us. All of us.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together we'll get to know each other and work on establishing trust. We'll talk about your issues and you will learn some insight as to how these issues developed.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I'm kind of modest about my strengths as a therapist, so I asked an old supervisor what she thought: "...warm, approachable, intuitive, perceptive, brilliant [I swear she really said that...], and a therapist whose patients get better...down to earth, knowledgeable and possessing great energy." All those wonderful things she said aside, I have had success helping people with anxiety and depression, addictions, and identity issues (especially those of veterans reintegrating into civilian life). If you are any of those folks, let's see what we can do.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT uses mindfulness and metaphors for a very good margin of success. That's evidenced based! Personally it's my go to.
