Welcome! My name is Sarah and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Michigan, but also serving clients as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC) in Indiana, and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the state of Ohio. I have been working in the field of counseling for over 16 years and specializing in addiction and trauma since 2012.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I understand that coming to therapy is a significant first step in a journey of self care and healing, so we will start with brief introductions, expectations for sessions and navigate any questions or hesitancies one might have before diving deeper into the specific challenges you are facing. This will help me create a tailored treatment plan to specifically address these needs.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have made it a goal in my career as a therapist to work in as many settings and with as many populations as I can with the intent to be the most well rounded provider I can be for my clients. I do not pretend to have all the answers, however, and I feel my personal life experiences have been just as meaningful and useful, if not more, in allowing me to connect with my clients. I am human and I strive to make my clients feel comfortable, safe, accepted and seen as much as possible.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

My passion is helping people regain their strength and have support through the many tough and unexpected trials in life. I am a firm believer that we make decisions with the best set of cards we have at any given time; ie: coping skills, supports, resources, etc. I believe we are all susceptible to struggling in certain ways and making decisions differently than we typically would, especially when we are lacking these protective factors. My desire is to help people give grace to themselves where possible, while also helping connect to resources and skills to help them see where they can take action and control of their circumstances. I believe there is a unique, powerful and authentic way of living that can come from surviving hard things. It has been both my personal and professional experience that finding connection and being reminded that you are not alone is profound. Sometimes we need someone to hold the hope for us when weve lost it in ourselves, and Im here to help.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I like to combine DBT to provide a number of skill sets to empower individuals with tangible coping to improve navigation of times of significant stress and intense emotion.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is utilized to educate individuals on the connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and to use this information to break unhealthy cycles.

Gottman method

The goals of Gottman Method Couples Therapy are to disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy; and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

Trauma-Focused CBT

The goal of trauma focused CBT is to help the patient develop a sense of safety and security, to repair or develop healthy social skills, and to help clients learn skills to cope, face and resolve trauma related concerns.
