Hello and welcome! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Northwest Indiana. I am also a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Illinois. I received my Master's degree in Counseling from Purdue University Northwest and have been practicing for 11 years. Additionally, I received from PhD from Walden University in Counselor Education & Supervision. As an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), I provide supervision to counseling interns as well as associate and newly licensed clinicians. I am also a Certified Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP) who specializes in working with those with anxiety disorders. I am also a board-certified counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC).

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we start with introductions but my overall goal is to get to know you and your story. While the first session focuses on information gathering, I invite you, at your comfort level, to dive into what brings to seeking out therapy. This allows us to build trust and rapport while acclimating you to the process of counseling.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

In my clinical work, over the years, I strive to create a safe and accepting environment for clients who can be seen and heard for who they are. I practice from a multicultural perspective which allows for the acceptance of diversity and inclusion amongst current and future clients. Additionally, I invite you to collaboratively create goals and outcomes for therapy while also challenging you to learn and grow as it relates to your desired change.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Jil primarily utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) approach with her clients to bring attention to the integration of a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors as they begin to learn more about themselves and navigate life's challenges.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

In conjunction with CBT, infusing an Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) perspective allows clients to acknowledge a range of thoughts, feelings, and emotions as they learn to strengthen psychological flexibility and activate change-based behaviors.

Existential

Themes of Existentialism are also brought into session, which highlights the broader concepts of meaning and purpose and how individuals can learn to seek out and manifest their true selves and cultivate fulfillment.

Strength-Based

As a foundation for Jil's overall therapeutic practice, a strengths-based approach is rooted in her work which serves to focus on individuals' internal strengths, abilities, and resourcefulness as they work towards creating lasting change.

Gender-affirming therapy

Finally, Jil specializes in working with individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and as part of her expertise, she aligns her work with a gender-affirming approach to holistically serve clients.
