I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. I greatly appreciate diversity and love to work with clients of all backgrounds and orientations. I believe the core of therapy is the relationship between client and therapist and therefore I have an active and engaged therapy style. I believe that if you do not have a great relationship with your therapist, you cannot do great work.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session with me, clients can expect for us to get to know each other a little better. I ask clients about themselves and what brings them to therapy and I also share a little about me and my approach. I hope that clients take away a sense of comfort and ease after our first session. I know that finding a new therapist can be very anxiety provoking and I often hear clients echo this. My goal is always to create a safe space for my clients. I also try to identify goals at the end of the first session so that my clients also know what we are working towards. I try to also empower clients to therapist shop; every therapist will not be the right fit for you and that is ok!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have been told by clients past and present that they appreciate how engaged I am. Clients have expressed that they like that I am easy to talk to and they like my guidance and direction in sessions. Many clients like that I give homework assignments and the accountability that it offers.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

I do not believe in the "one size fits all" approach to therapy. I value diversity and differences in my clients and thus I believe that treatment should fit each individual. Therefore I regularly utilize CBT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, trauma focused, humanistic and strength-based approaches in therapy. I believe the client is the expert of his/her/their experience and that we are working together to meet identified goals.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

A culturally competent and sensitive approach to therapy is so important to me, especially as a Black, Nigerian-American, woman therapist. I greatly value, respect and welcome diversity amongst my clients and believe this is the best approach for a good therapeutic relationship.
