My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavior Therapy is effective in the treatment of a variety of behavioral health needs. In treating co-occurring mental health disorders, such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress (PTS), Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Phobias, Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD and in the treatment of substance use disorders, CBT can help guide an individual to better mental health. With CBT our goal is to challenge an individual's thoughts and beliefs, behaviors, and emotions in response to their unique needs and challenging environments. We focus on teaching developing resilience in the face of situational and environmental challenges, learning new effective coping strategies in response, and encouraging the development of new individualized goals. CBT can be utilized solely to quickly identify specific issues, or in combination with other therapies to see a problem in a different Lense, then foster learning of specific strategies to effectively cope and reduce further negative impact in one’s life. My primary goal in treatment is to offer compassionate care, with a non-judgmental approach to help meet the individual’s needs. I will guide the individual through a supportive and accepting process, while helping to encourage and facilitate their discovery of their own sense-of-self, gaining self-acceptance, self-compassion, and self-empowerment. I have utilized CBT while treating adults with Opiate Use and other substance use disorders for almost 10 years. I also treat co-occurring disorders and the management of Anxiety, Depression, OCD, Post traumatic Stress Disorder, Bi-Polar Disorder, and past traumas.

Motivational Interviewing

MI is a collaborative approach between Therapist and patient to boost person centered therapy. The goals is to illicit change talk in the patient and increase their motivation to change.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Patients often seek to make meaning of their lives. As your therapist, I will use a series of questions to get to understand your perspective of your life. In order to find the areas of strengths, available resources to identify and fulfill your desires, we will focus on identifying the solution to your problem, identifying what works and you can use available solutions to satisfy other possible issues. One of the techniques is to ask you the "Miracle question." If you woke up tomorrow and your problem was solved, how would you know? What would have changed for you? It's my job to help you expose the solution.

Grief Therapy

Many of my patients seeking treatment for their addiction, express experiencing issues with past trauma, grief or loss, family dysfunction, educational and employment challenges in addition to a variety of untreated medical conditions. It is then necessary to complete a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment so that mental health and addiction symptoms can be accurately identified, diagnosed and treated. This is the foundation of developing an effective individualized treatment plan.
