Hi, Im Sarah, a Licensed Clinical Social worker providing services in ND and MN. I Graduated with my Master's degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2019. I work with those struggling with anxiety and depression, along with navigating life transitions. I have also grown fond of working with people who are learning to manage symptoms of personality disorders, wether it is for themselves, or if they are finding themselves in interpersonal relationships with others who have a personality disorder.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session we will begin with introductions then move into current life stressors or what brought you to therapy. Though a back and forth discussion, we will touch on childhood, family dynamics, medical information to appropriately inform any potential diagnosis or additional focuses of therapy. Ideally we will end the session around identifying at least 1 or 2 specific goals to start working on in future sessions to ensure we are on the same page and have the same expectations moving forward in therapy sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

While I am empathetic and compassionate, I sometimes use a direct approach when appropriate. I try to keep most sessions conversational, as I find it helpful in creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs that contribute to their emotional distress, develop coping strategies and problem-solving skills to manage symptoms and improveoverall wellbeing. Clients learn to reframe their thinking, develop healthiier behaviors and cutlivate more adaptive ways of responding to challenging situations. This approach empowers clients to take control of their thoughts and behaviors, leading to lasting positive change in their lives.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use DBT to help clients develop skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. I work with clients to identify and change problemativ behaviors, improve emotional regulaton and enhance their ability to navigate challenging situations. DBT emphasises acceptance of difficult emotions while also focusing on making positive changes in behavior. Clients learn to balance acceptance and change, leading to increased emotional resilience and improved relationships. This approach helps clients build a life worth living by developing skills to come with life's challenges more effectively.

Attachment-based

In therapy, I use an attachement-based therapy approach to explore how early relationship experiences shape an individual's patterns of relating to to others. I work with clients to identify attachment styles and patterns that may be impacting their current relationshps and emotional well being. Through a compassionate and supportive therapeutic relationship, I help clients process past attachment woulds and develop more secure and healthy ways of connecting with others. By fostering a sense of safety and trust in therapy, clients can explore and heal attachment-related issues, leading to improved self-awareness, emotional reulation, and healthier relationships. This approach helps clients develop a more secure attachment style and build stronger, more fulfilling connections with others.
