Hi. I'm Allene Lyons. I'm glad you took that difficult first step and reached out for help. I am a licensed clinical social worker with 49 years of experience working with adults over 19 years of age and providing supervision and consultation to colleagues. The natural course of life presents many joys; however, there are also challenges and transitions. There are times when we can bounce back from anything and there are times when our resilience falls short. It can be very helpful to have another person offer new perspectives or help us find the way out. Using psychodynamic and cognitive therapy techniques, along with providing a safe non-judgmental space, we can work together so the solutions and life changes you are seeking can be achieved. I work with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, ADHD, self-worth and women's issues.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session I gather information about you, your life, your experiences, what brought you to therapy and what you would like to accomplish here.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel my biggest strength is being present with you wherever you are. I believe that being present helps you fight anxiety and keeps you grounded and connected to yourself and everything around you. When I am present with you, you have my full attention. I view therapy as a journey that you are going on and I am there to act as a guide, not an expert.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps you learn how to identify and change the destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on your behavior and emotions. I use CBT to help my clients explore their thought distortions and use various techniques to look realistically at what they are thinking. We practice in the sessions and during homwork to use these skills.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on unconscious thoughts and actions as they appear in your present behavior. The goals of psychodynamic therapy are self-awareness and understanding of the influence of your past on present behavior. By reviewing and examining your past experiences we can make a connection between those and your current way of thinking or feeling.
