I am Sterling Gibson; a seasoned therapist who has been in the mental health field for the past 20 years. Im not a therapist as a job, but as my calling. My motto is: "Your Dreams are the blueprint to your success". I am a veteran that fought in operation Enduring Freedom during 9/11. As a result, I have fought and overcome my own set of emotional and mental health setbacks as a returning combat vet. With that said, I am equipped with a special skill set to to help inspire, motivate, and help clients to navigate various struggles they be dealing with. When a client is ready to face the issues that are impacting them, then this soldier is ready to answer the call.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session I conduct a bio, psycho-social that gives me a breif description of the following areas of the clients life : 1) mental history/family mental health history; 2) medical history; 3) upbringing; 4) current struggles; 5) potential treatment plan goals/future steps

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a provider reside in the collection of the turbulent upbringing that I survived in inner city Philadelphia as a youth, having been a combat war vet, working with inner city youth , and as a standup comic as an adult. I take a piece from every one of those listed experiences and use them to make me a sensible provider, a compassionate provider, a resilient provider, a good listener, and a tenacious provider.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I specialize in helping change the therapeutic conversation from "what's wrong with you?" to "what happened to you"? In this regard I am able to walk down the therapeutic yellow brick road with the client in order to identify the traumatic milestone markers in a clients life that has begun to manifest via various symptoms.

Eclectic

I use the eclectic therapy approach. This means that I use the most relevant techniques from other evidence-based therapy modalities and pair them together for an effective, individualized treatment plan. For this reason I value the fact that each client is unique and has unique needs in therapy.

Family Therapy

I use family therapy as a form of talk therapy that focuses on the improvement of relationships among family members. This approach can also help treat or minimize specific mental health or behavioral conditions, such as substance use disorder or oppositional defiant disorder in some cases.
