Hi! I'm Angelica, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California. I received my Masters in Counseling Psychology from Mount St. Mary's University in Downtown Los Angeles. I work with adults struggling with symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as with clients who are having issues with low self-esteem and trouble in relationships with friends, family, coworkers or partners.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session we will start with introductions and you will tell me a little bit about yourself and the concerns that bring you to therapy. I will answer any questions you may have about the process of therapy and we will go through your goals and expectations. We will also talk about your history and anything relevant to how you are feeling and what you would like to work on.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

The knowledge and experience I have gained from the moment I started grad school and through these past years seeing clients has taught me that my greatest strength is the relationship that I build with my clients. I genuinely care about you and want to help you lead a beautiful and happy life. I will be present for you and bring all the empathy and knowledge that I have in order to help you feel better.

My treatment methods

Humanistic

My primary approach to therapy is a Humanistic or Person Centered one. I believe that creating a safe, genuine and empathetic space in therapy will help clients feel better. I focus on building a strong therapeutic alliance that will empower clients to process their concerns, reduce symptoms, improve self esteem, and improve their relationship with themselves and others.

Eclectic

I also use ideas, theories and interventions from several other modalities. For example, I incorporate psychodynamic theory in order to take a look at childhood and how that may be influencing our current behavior, emotions and functioning. I also use attachment theory to gain more insight into how our early attachments impact how we relate to others now. I use mindfulness, learning to be in the present moment, learning to connect with our body. I also use concepts from CBT(Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Narrative therapy that can help us gain insight into our thoughts and the story we are telling ourselves and how these thoughts may be influencing our emotions and behaviors.
