I am licensed in Hawai'i, Arizona, and Washington DC with over 30 years of professional work experience. I've been highly effective in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, motivation, self-esteem, and confidence, & coping with life changes. I believe you are the expert of your story and you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I have learned a great deal over the past 30 years about what in general works well with clients new to therapy as well as those who have experienced a special relationship with a professional counselor. The first session is largely hearing and learning what the client needs and wants from therapy. It involves gathering the relevant history and information and building a safe and trusting place with no judgment. I am working to make sure I can be of service to the client and get the foundation of what the client's goals are for counseling.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I've heard from client testimonials and my clients my greatest strengths are in providing a safe enough environment where the client feels comfortable enough to share their feelings and thoughts but also able to have their thoughts challenged and explored knowing it is with the highest intent of assisting the client in their struggles and challenges.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

Having worked over the past three decades with a variety of clients and presenting problems, I have found one treatment method doesn't necessarily address the needs of all clients. In my experience having the ability to tailor the methods I use to address the clients' needs results in better outcomes.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Using ACT I have seen promoting a client's psychological flexibility and increasing the ability to engage in values-based life activities will assist in reducing personal suffering and produce an increased sense of purposefulness.

Attachment-based

Many people come to me suffering with relationship issues. Should I stay? Should I go? Understanding how our earliest attachment experiences color our present struggles is very useful in getting "unstuck".

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is one of the most frequently used methods as I and many therapists have found it helps clients identify and modify distorted thinking patterns, attitudes, and behaviors that contribute to their distress. By learning new coping skills and strategies, I've seen clients can better manage situations and improve their overall well-being and relationships.
