What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together I will be getting to know you; your strengths; asking about specific challenges/stressors that led you to seek support; and creating a safe space for you to feel comfortable and just be yourself.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a Strengths-based therapist. I believe each person comes into therapy with their own strengths, abilities, and life experience; that I can build upon to help them feel better, happier, and more fulfilled.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive-behavioral Therapy to help clients explore how their thoughts impact their feelings/emotions and mood. I then teach techniques to use such as thought-stopping, and replacing with positive self-talk that helps shift their perspective, decrease negative feelings, increase positive feelings, and improve mood.

Compassion Focused

I believe compassion and empathy are very important qualities of a therapist. I like to get to know my client first, and provide a safe place to talk about what's on their mind. I start by asking about their job, family, friends, and things they enjoy doing for fun. I ask about their strengths and current coping methods they use day to day. I explore their thoughts on current stressors impacting their life, losses, family of origin, and any possible painful/traumatic events they have experienced.

Couples Counseling

I get to know the couple first, and provide a safe, supportive space to help each partner feel heard, understood, and supported. I begin by asking how the couple met, how long they've been together, what they liked about each other in those early days of the relationship. I then explore what issues/concerns/problems bring them to couples therapy at this time, and ask what they are hoping to achieve in therapy.
