I have worked as a counselor for the last 17 years, and specialize in working with those who are challenged by changes in life. Whether you have had recent life events that are confusing or upsetting to you, losses, or feel as though your life is missing something, my desire as a therapist is to help you work through the change process and land in a space that makes you feel as though you are complete. I am proud to be a person that people say they feel comfortable talking to and have always taken a nonjudgmental approach to anything someone has to share. We are all unique and deserve an unbiased audience. Whether you are struggling in a relationship, looking at addictive behaviors, challenged by mood changes, or just unsure of why you feel stuck, I would love the opportunity to work with you and assist in facilitating movement toward your personal goals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will work collaboratively to determine the main concerns that you want to focus on and make some changes. I will spend time asking you about your life, relationships, mental health history, and several other areas of focus to get a sense of where you may be struggling, have support, and need assistance. Though you may feel anxious about starting counseling, my hope is that this initial session will ease your mind about the process, and you will walk away feeling as though you have support and the start of a path leading in the direction of where you would like to be in the future.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My main strengths as a therapist are openness and nonjudgmentalism. I understand that shame and guilt are some of the hardest emotions to express, but that once we can lean into the experiences and spaces that hold these emotions, we can do some great work. I am present, patient, and willing to sit in the hard spaces with you as you figure out how to work through and live with life’s challenges and all the emotions that come with it.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I have engaged in several intensive ACT Trainings, reviewed literature, and implemented it in my work with clients for years. I often encourage emotional experiencing and visualization in session in lieu of avoidance.

Motivational Interviewing

I have had several years of training in Motivational Interviewing and have been a trainer for the last 12 years. I believe that change is a ongoing process and that meeting a person "where they are at" is the key to engaging and reducing self-protective behavior. It is best to explore all the reasons for changing AND not changing to really understand what will work for someone.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I believe that everyone has the capacity to be the best version of themselves, and long for this...often struggle in our reach for this vision of who we know we have the capacity to be. I remain nonjudgmental, am genuine in my approach to therapy, and remain empathic to client's life experiences.
