Welcome to my profile...I am Laura Myers-Meske LMSW (she/her). I have worked as a mental health therapist for over 30 years. And I look forward to working with many more. Hopefully with you. I am committed to supporting my consumers as we work together to address their primary issue of concern. I see strength in everyone and can help you find your strength and to believe in yourself.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session I will introduce myself more in more detail and review with you the intake paperwork which you will have completed. We will clarify the issue that most concerns you, identify the outcome that you plan to attain, and begin development of the plan of services to attain that goal.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Because I have had a long career as a therapist and also as a supervisor of other therapists, I have had to privilege of working with many consumers who have had a wide variety of issues that bring them into treatment. I am not easily shocked. I love my work. I respect diversity in all aspects. And I give every consumer the best service I can.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

My ideal consumers at this time are adults either dealing with their own issues or coping with a child whose needs may seem overwhelming to a parent. But after years of working with children/adolescents, I am certainly open to working with a teen who is looking for care for themself.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I have years of experience dealing with trauma survivors, both children and adults. It is my policy to use a trauma lens when assessing a consumer's mental health concerns. Most of my work has been with consumers who were sexually abused.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I have been certified in TF-CBT and used it in my work with children and adolescents for approximately 10 years.

Gender-affirming therapy

I have worked with both LGBTQIA+ teens and adults over the course of my entire career in mental health care. I also have a personal investment in this group and have continued to learn about needed services for the transgender consumers in recent years.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is an approach that I frequently use with individuals dealing with more mild/moderate mental illness. It teaches a consumer to take charge of their own recovery.

Eclectic

I would use the terms person-centered and strength-based combine to describe my more general approach to treatment of consumers who have been in my care. I respect the individual and attempt to help that person identify and expand on their own strengths.
