Hello, and welcome. I am so glad you have reached this point in your therapy journey. My name is Erin. I have been a social worker for nearly 20 years. I have been a LCSW for nearly 3 and was a CSW for 10 years. I have worked in Substance Use treatment centers, in mental health crisis centers, and I have helped clients with mood disorders, anxiety, grief, trauma and substances abuse and misuse.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In session with me I do a lot more listening than speaking. I know you have a story to tell. With that being said, I do not expect everything to be "laid on the table" in the first session. The first session will be a get to know you, set expectations, and ask about personal goals you are wanting to achieve in therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My ability to listen, reflect, and when possible offer suggestions for strategies that might best help the situation, or experience.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

As a clinician I will assist in figuring out what effective strategies will help address the identified goals and help lessen symptoms of common mental health conditions such as depression and and anxiety. CBT is based on the belief that thought distortions and problematic behaviors play a role in mental health conditions their symptoms and associated distress can be reduced by teaching new information-processing skills and coping mechanisms.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

In DBT the clinician helps the client work with acceptance, and developing change-oriented strategies. These strategies ultimately balance and help regulate emotions. DBT works under the principles of emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivation Interviewing is one that is frequently utilized when combating substance use disorders, but is effective with other mental health conditions. The standard of motivational interviewing is communicating trust between two people (client and clinician). Together we will see what behaviors are and are not working and what the motivations are in each behavior. Once those behaviors are identified, we can work together to develop strategies to lessen client identified problematic behaviors.
