Hi! Im Karen, and I am an LCMHC, LCAS, ( 8 years ) in providing therapy for clients. I graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University, Hickory, North Carolina. I currently serve clients from ages 10-99 years old. So just as my slogan says I want to help you recover, rejuvenate, and replenish. Together we can work to build your resilience so that whatever you may be dealing with in life you won't get down and stay down you will learn the skills in sessions and be able to rejuvenate (the act of energizing, revitalizing) yourself and get back up. We need to replenish. I want you to be able to replenish(to restore, to fill up again)! I want you to discover you! Restore old relationships and build new bridges of healthy communication. I want you to be able to gain insight to who you are and what brings you joy and happiness, what gives you life!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will " get to know you, what brought you here?" Following sessions, you will expect skills-based techniques as well as talk therapy, ending with relaxation techniques to help you leave your session with skills and relaxation techniques.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Empathy, compassion, knowledge, and expertise in my field. Neuroscience, chemicals and how this relates to the symptoms one may be experiencing. " I will meet you where your at if your just in early stages, maybe your contemplating change I will be with you on your journey." Celebrations of successful goals you have accomplished.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I find CBT is most effective when focusing on changing a specific behaviors. CBT is very effective when challenging anxious thoughts for example a client with OCD or panic disorders. CBT is very effective for changing one thinks about themselves ( such as low self esteem) challenging negative thoughts . CBT is effective for helping with addictions ( drug, porn, video gaming etc).

Attachment-based

Relationships- Attachment based therapy is best utilzied for relationships ( interpersonal, family dynamics) and how we interact and connect with our worlds. Also helpful in explaining how one's attachment has been related to past trauma events.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialetical Behavioral Therapy I use every session ( everything from mindfulness to emotion regulation) DBT is very effective and is a treatment method I would say I practice daily in my sessions. DBT is used also for things we maybe can't understand or we can't change " we can't always change how someone reacts to what we say and do but we can change how we can learn to accept things we can't change." Observation, acceptance, and effective communication with others in our world help us to communicate and work through difficult situations. CBT and DBT I use intermittently with anger issue and emotion regulation.
