As a licensed professional counselor with over 18 years in mental health experience, I have worked in a variety of settings before settling in private practice, and most recently virtual. Though it has been a challenge, I am very pleased and honored to have been a part of the process to advocating for telemental healrh services. As an undergraduate and graduate student, I recognized first hand the lack of access to mental health services in Rural Pennsylvania. I have advocated at all levels for more accessible care for clients as I wanted to advocate for those who seemed to be falling between the cracks. I initially began working with children and adolescents, however; I have worked with adults and geriatrics as well. I have worked with various different levels of care including inpatient, outpatient, private practice, family based, juvenile detention, wrap around services, schools based, applied behavior analysis, university, and in a prison setting. I to a leap of faith to start my own practice during the pandemic, and I am so grateful to have a lot better work life balance to focus my full attention on providing quality care to my clients.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first session, I will evaluate your presenting problems and complete assessments. At this point, we will determine if we would be a good fit. If we are both in agreement to move forward with treatment, we will collaborate on a treatment plan to work on together. We will discuss frequency and length of treatment. If either parties determine this is not a good fit, the goal is to find you a therapist that can better suit your needs. I have a plethora of referral resources to best meet your needs.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Ability to take feedback and learn and grow every day.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I am certified in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy with PESI. I use the workbook adapted by Marsha Linehan while helping clients to regulate emotions, improve interpersonal skills, use mindfulness, and improve distress tolerance. My main goal in DBT is to promote acceptance and validation in who you are and the challenges and the benefits of change. In order to be a good candidate for DBT you must be self harm free and in a safe environment.

EMDR

I am EMDR informed and am currently working towards completing required hours for EMDR Certification. With using EMDR, I work with the clients to reduce symptoms of distress as a result of traumatic events. This is used through bilateral stimulation of the eyes. I currently use a virtual website, where I can share my link and we can navigate through the cicades together. If you have an apple phone and watch, I can recommend EMDR tappers for vibration.

Play Therapy

I have a few platforms that I have adapted along the way of my journey towards a strictly telehealth based practice that provide different tools and activities to utilize such as sand tray, leggos, and puppets.

Gottman method

I use the Gottman Method, the four horsemen and their antidotes to help improve relationships, love maps, open ended questions, rituals of connection, opportunity, sex questions, date questions, give appreciation, expressing needs, expressing empathy, and great listening
