My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

I am a psychodynamic process oriented psychotherapist. Kind of an "old school" therapist. My work is generally not a short term process. The process itself, of self awareness, is the catalyst for change and we get to that awareness by simply talking about your life. I often utilize the technique of free association to navigate your thoughts and feelings and we see where it leads: your own guide to self exploration during our session. The treatment is based on core principles: it’s client centered meaning we focus on your issues, where you’re at today, where you have come from, feelings, unconscious drives, defense mechanisms, and we focus on the process, what it’s like to engage in the treatment with the psychotherapist. The relationship with the therapist is key. I am not a brief solutions-based therapist or cognitive behavioral therapist and have no idea what motivational interviewing or mindfulness actually is. LOL
