I'm so glad you are here! My name is Jennifer Yates and I have been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for 17 years, and practicing for 25 years. I have a BS in Psychology and a Master's in Counseling, and have been trained in 5 Evidence Based Practices. I find that it is my experience of working in the field this long along with my ability to connect to clients easily that makes me a great therapist. It is my passion to help others and be a guide and support along your journey. Please note that for no-shows and late cancellations (within 24 hours), there will be an automatic $75 fee. If you have Kaiser NorCal, there are no fees, however they will not allow you to schedule after 3 no shows.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session is about getting to know you, and making sure you feel that I am a good fit for you along your journey. Clients typically tell me they feel at ease by the end of our first session (if not before) and that they are excited to embark upon this journey together. We may start to discuss goals if that is something you are wanting to do.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As mentioned before, I pride myself in connecting with clients easily and making sure they feel comfortable. My compassion and warmth are my greatest strengths because without those, and without you feeling seen and heard by me, then doing any "work" together would prove difficult. It is the therapeutic relationship that will help guide our work together at your pace and with all of the tools I have at my disposal over the last 25 years.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I appreciate clients who are here and ready to get the support they need! It takes a lot of courage to take this step, so your willingness to find the best fit for your therapeutic journey shows that you have the level of self awareness need to create change and feel more empowered in your life. I typically work with women looking to be the best version of themselves and are open to various modalities based on their individual personalities and needs.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a great methodology for depression and anxiety and changing negative thoughts, increasing self esteem, and rewiring the way we think about ourselves, others, and situations.

Compassion Focused

Compassion focused is a client-centered method focused on active listening and reflective feedback to help support you feeling heard and understood.

Eclectic

Eclectic is my main methodology - it is tailored to your personality, your needs and your goals using whatever methods are best suited for you. Since I have been a therapist for 25 years, I have a lot of tools in my toolbox and want to make sure you are getting the right fit for whatever you are going through!

Mind-body approach

I am a huge proponent of the mind body connection. Perhaps you experience somatic (body) issues when you are stressed, anxious, or feeling down. Using this method can help with shifting thoughts that in turn will bring wellness to your body as well. Treating clients as a whole person and not just their symptoms is very important to our work together.
