Are you tired of searching for a therapist? Well, your search ends here. My name is Gwen, and I have been a clinical therapist for over 15 years. I specialize in trauma, depression and anxiety. Every person is different, therefore, I like to use a customized approach that caters specifically to each client. I like to use various techniques, theories and modalities that are backed by sound research and provide high validity and reliability. I like to use approaches that step outside the box and empower the client to make decisions. The goal is to return the client to optimal functioning. I hope to start our journey together soon.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first session, I like to gather information and work on the therapeutic relationship. I know this can take a couple of sessions. Afterward, I like to formulate some goals with objectives. This helps to keep sessions on track and measure progress with each client. After goals are formulated, I like to recommend readings, videos, skills and assignments to work on goals. The clients are encouraged to be vocal when they think something is not working. There are always other options. The client is in charge of how much they want to share or how much work they want to do. The clients are encouraged to be vocal when uncomfortable with a certain skill or approach. The idea is to empower the client to make decisions.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I incorporate an eclectic approach depending on the client. Therapy is typically a person-centered approach using techniques in cognitive behavior therapy, rational emotive behavioral therapy, behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, exposure therapy, cognitive processing therapy and mindfulness and biofeedback. I use cognitive processing therapy for trauma clients. This therapy, pioneered by Dr. Patricia Resick, looks at thinking patterns that keep an individual stuck. I use cognitive behavior therapy for most mood and anxiety diagnoses and incorporate exposure therapy for clients that tend to avoid situations due to their fears. I like to use mindfulness and biofeedback for clients suffering from different types of anxiety.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My ability to remember things the client shares in session since I'm a good listener. By nature, I'm a laid-back individual with a lot of patience and understanding. My ability to be open-minded, honest and not judgemental with my clients. I'm very reliable, punctual and organized for sessions. Because I have been in the profession for over 15 years, I think I'm more knowledgeable of the issues going on and versed in different theories, modalities and skills to help. I hold New Jersey state certifications in Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence. I have been specially trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma and PTSD clients.
