Hello! I'm Carissa, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Minnesota. First of all, welcome! And props to you for you for taking steps towards finding peace, whatever that may look like. Are you overwhelmed? Feeling hopeless? Tired of worrying that you’re not good enough? Shame and self-criticism can hinder us from living our best lives. I know how hard it is to find the right help, and how important it is to feel understood. In a warm and nurturing environment, I'm here to support you as we can navigate past or ongoing trauma, difficult feelings and circumstances, among other adversities you may be facing. Your life holds too much importance to feel stuck, lost, or hopeless forever. I'm here to support you. A little about me: I obtained my Master's degree in Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I spent my first two years of post-grad school as a school social worker before switching over to psychotherapy. My work consists of helping folks with the various forms of adversity that take place in their lives. Together, we can: validate feelings and experiences, recognize unhelpful patterns, and create a treatment plan tailored to your needs and at your pace! Ultimately, I aim for helping you find or make a lasting and meaningful change. Email me today for a free consultation and see if we’re a good fit!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with introductions to build rapport, discuss your expectations for therapy, and then dive into any struggles you may be facing. In addition, to respect your time, I want to make each session as useful for YOU as possible.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with kids, adolescents, and families, my approach is consistently warm, soft, and gentle. I'm here to assist folks with the direction they'd like to take throughout the therapeutic relationship, ethically and appropriately, of course. As my style is collaborative, my goal as a therapist is to help you uncover your true potential. Together we can work towards finding the root cause of the challenges that you're facing, and create a plan that can lead towards improvement in quality of life!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I've utilized CBT to assist clients with their symptom management and reduction by providing psychoeducation, engaging in cognitive restructuring, somatic techniques and mindfulness.

Trauma Informed Care

I continuously acknowledge the pervasive nature of trauma and aim to promote an environment of healing and recovery, by actively being mindful of various ways retraumatization could occur as it pertains to EACH client.

Psychoeducation

I've always believed that Psychoed is one of the key aspects to therapy; learning and understanding your symptoms, experiences, and the overall impact of those symptoms mentally and physically.

Strength-Based

Continuously applying the client's strengths and assets throughout treatment. I strongly belive people are inherently resourceful and resilient in the face of adversity.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I'm a fan of utilizing mindfulness to help stay present and to accept your thoughts and feelings without judgment and shame. This aims to assist you with moving forward by allowing buried pain to be properly felt, so your energy can be channeled into healing rather than continuously feeling stuck in emotional turmoil.
