Hello, Hola, I am Lorennia Valencia, LCWS-C, bilingual therapist based in Maryland. I received my master's degree from the University of Maryland and I have been providing psychotherapy for over four years. I help clients overcome the most challenging situations in their lives by using a culturally competent, non-judgemental approach and a systemic lens. For over four years I have worked with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, grief and loss, and marital issues. Yo hablo Español!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, I make sure the clients feel safe enough to share their concerns and history which will help me provide the best therapeutic treatment based on the client's uniqueness and expectations.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I provide a safe and non-judgemental space founded in trust and empathy to facilitate even the most difficult discussions, in English and Spanish! My life journey, experience working with clients from different cultures, and my strong believe that people have the power to overcome any challenge that life throws at them are the foundation of my therapeutic strengths.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with adult individuals and couples, including multicultural couples, who need a safe space to explore obstacles and challenges related to the uniqueness of their relationships. I focus on helping individuals and couples heal, grow, reconnect, and rediscover their best selves. Furthermore, I help clients overcome and manage their symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using CBT in my practice for more than four years with many populations because it is one of the most effective type of psychotherapy that can help you challenge those unhealthy ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. While utilizing CBT, we will explore, identify, and change those intrusive thoughts that are negatively impacting your journey in life.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I am part of a multicultural blended family and as a bilingual therapist I have been working with a variety of populations for more than four years. During these four years I have had the privilege to meet patients and clients from around the world and have provided psychotherapy that is culturally competent and sensitive to the uniqueness of every culture and individual.

Motivational Interviewing

I have used Motivational Interviewing for more than four years to help clients work through ambivalence and inner conflict. While utilizing MI we will work together to find the motivation needed to achieve goals, and make positive change possible.

Grief Therapy

During three years I worked with clients who have experience miscarriages, stillbirth, stillborn, or the loss of a newborn. The grieving journey is not linear and it does not follow a pattern. We will use grief therapy to allow yourself to feel and express every emotion that comes with a loss. We will help you build a special connection with the one you lost while adjusting and reinvesting in life.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I have experience working with a very vulnerable population where time was of the essence. I use SFT, which incorporates positive psychology, to help clients use their strengths to achieve goals, growth, and move forward in life while leaving the past in the past.
