Are you stressed and overwhelmed by your health, your day-to-day life, or your relationships? As a Psychologist with more than 27 years of experience, as well as being a two-time breast cancer survivor and a caretaker for my elderly parents, I can help you to navigate health issues and life stresses more effectively. Life can be difficult for each of us at some point in time, in ways unique to our own circumstances. My goal is to help people through the tough chapters so that they move into better chapters with additional tools to handle challenges and stresses. I don't view people as being broken or needing fixing. We all need someone with whom to sort things through at times, someone who isn't part of our day-to-day mix. My goal is to help individual adults develop more effective expectations by redefining their stresses and challenges, to reduce emotional upset and distress by looking at their issues from a new angle, and to feel empowered by trying new approaches to effective problem-solving. I would be pleased to walk this journey with you, to reduce stress and find a more satisfying approach to life. Available appointments are those set aside specifically for intakes. Follow-up appointments are usually set for afternoons, Monday through Thursday. I cannot do letters, FMLA forms or provide disability opinions for clients who have not been involved in therapy for at least several months. If you have any questions about services or additional availability, you may contact me at (404) 889-6283.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, we will review the information from the forms you have completed, discuss your experiences, and together create goals and a plan for working towards your making changes which will result in a less challenging or stressful life. Therapy is a conversation which spurs you to think about issues and try new things between the sessions. We start this at the first session and you will get "assignments" between sessions to help you continue the work between times that we meet.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My clinical training has been augmented by life experience so that I get the struggles of medical challenges and life stresses. I did a specialty of Health Psychology in graduate school. I did not know nearly as much then as I do now, having gone through cancer treatment in 2001 and again in 2007. I was the primary caregiver for my mother and then later for my father.

Much of what impacts out emotions are how we define and think about things and the automatic ways we go about doing things, so by making intentional changes in our thoughts and actions, we can have a positive impact on how we feel.
