Hi there! My name is Ash. I have been a licensed therapist in New York state for 8 years, but have been in the field in other ways for much longer than that. I am a laid back, down-to-earth therapist and I use a supportive, open, collaborative approach , using various therapeutic techniques, to help people live the lives they want. I provide a safe, non-judgmental, empathetic space for you to work on your issues, while also respectfully holding you accountable to help you break unhelpful patterns. Sessions are collaborative and person-focused so that you are able to use your time for what you want to work on; whether you want to process trauma or vent about something that is frustrating you. Additionally, if you are someone who uses humor to work through difficult emotions, wants to talk with someone who thinks outside the box, or wants to work with an authentic, openminded person who wants to help people heal, then you came to the right place. I look forward to getting to know you!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During out first chat, we will spend some time getting to know each other. We will discuss your specific challenges and any symptoms you may be experiencing. We will discuss your your goals for therapy, your strengths and areas of growth, and what you would like to start working on first. I know it can take time to trust a new therapist, so we will do things at your pace. All I will ask up front, is if you have a specific communication and learning style that works best for you, please let me know. I want to provide the best possible experience to you and can tailor your session to meet your needs. For example; if you are a visual learner and like images or videos to learn, I can utilize this in our sessions to help you process things in a way that works for you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a practical, laid back, open-minded therapist and I am always honest with my clients, even if the truth is difficult to hear. Sometimes the hard things are what we need to hear the most, in order to grow.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a popular therapy technique because it works. There is no denying that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other. By learning to challenge your unhelpful thinking patterns, you will be able to decrease the negative thoughts, increase the good self-talk, and work toward making positive changes in your daily life.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Therapy doesn't always have to be a long-term process. Often times, people will seek therapy and only need a few sessions because they just want to work on solutions to their pressing issues. In Solution Focused Brief Treatment, you don't have to spend several sessions looking at the root of the problem. Rather, you come in, get to work and you're done when you feel done.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

More than anything else, I have a person-centered mindset when it comes to anyone I see, meaning I will meet you where you are, whatever that means to the you at that time. I will provide an empathetic environment for you to share your feelings and experiences with no judgement. You are the writer and director of your story, I will be there to help guide you and do my best to help you create the life that you want to live.

Supportive

I provide supportive therapy to every client I work with. This involves a collaborative partnership approach in which we work together to develop goals, improve symptoms, and increase emotional regulation skills. This allows us to have an ongoing, open dialogue about what is and isn't working and where we need to focus our attention during sessions.

Relational

Good communication skills are crucial for healthy personal relationships. Relational therapy involves taking a look how you relate to and communicate with others and how it impacts your mental health and daily wellbeing. You will learn about your communication styles, healthy and unhealthy relationship patterns, and skills for developing and maintain long lasting healthy relationships.
