Thank you for visiting my profile. I'm a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Georgia with over 20 years of experience with adults facing a myriad of issues including depression, anxiety, chronic illness/pain, caregiver stress, trauma/PTSD, grief, relationship issues and life transitions. I employ a holistic approach integrating principles of cognitive behavior therapy, culturally based therapy and strength- based therapy to empower clients to become their authentic selves and make meaningful change.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, you can expect a warm, safe, non-judgemental space to share your story, feel heard, understood and valued in your process of self discovery, healing, finding joy and self fulfilment. We will begin with introductions, followed by an opportunity for you to speak about what brought you to therapy, prior experience with therapy and what you hope to get out of the experience. We will spend time reviewing your completed intake paperwork and you will have a chance to ask me questions to determine if we are a good fit. Finally, you will identify goals you would like to work on during our time together and begin working on your initial treatment plan.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strength as a therapist is my ability to listen in order to understand and without judgment. I am warm and empathic, yet can be direct and will confront or challenge clients when deemed necessary. I use a collaborative approach to ensure the client's needs and goals are addressed.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I believe clients are experts in their lives. My role as a therapist is to help clients identify and restructure negative thinking, emotions and behaviors.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Cultural sensitivity is often associated with minority populations, but we all have a culture which influences how individuals perceive, experience and express mental health symptoms. As a therapist, I begin with acknowledgement of the influence of my history , values and life experiences and well as my limitations. In the initial session I inquire about the client's self identified race/ethnicity, the client's family and cultural background, beliefs or past experiences regarding mental health services and use of emotional expression in order to develop my understanding of the cultural context that shape the client's perception of their distress. I then adapt my therapeutic approach to ensure alignment with the client's needs and cultural values.

Strength-Based

I firmly believe that clients have the capacity and inner strength needed to resolve their issues. I offer support and guidance to help clients recognize their strengths , learn from past experiences , create new narratives and focus on solutions instead of dwelling on problems.
