English / Español / Português My career has been focused on working with the families of teenagers. Though my online practice is limited to working with adults individually, the issues of parenting and family conflict continue to interest me deeply. I am also quite interested in the emotional challenges related to immigration, and much of my work has been with immigrant families from Latin America. Furthermore, as I age, I have become increasingly interested in working with older adults.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Therapy is an opportunity to put words to our emotional and relational experiences. As we affirm what we know, and realize what we don’t know, we become aware of perspectives and possibilities for action that can liberate us from perpetuating unfulfilling patterns of behavior. Therapy is a tool for clarifying our beliefs and values. It is a support to discovering and enacting behaviors that are congruent with our goals. It is an opportunity to make sense of our past, and it is an opportunity to make the most of the present, toward the end of becoming the person that we want to be. When we talk with someone who is committed to our welfare and listens to us closely, we have the benefit of another perspective to help us notice important parts of our experience we may be overlooking.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

The tenets of Person Centered Therapy are simple. It holds that clients have within themselves a tendency towards growth and fulfillment. According to this method, the therapist is the client’s assistant in discovering and realizing that potential. This therapy is client-driven. It requires that the therapist listens deeply, and responds with curiosity, empathy, and genuineness.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am curious and I am authentic. I am empathic regarding the weakness and confusion that keeps us from being our best selves. I admire people who try to speak honestly about their experiences. I think that takes courage. As your therapist, I will listen closely to what you say. I will reflect what I hear, and I will ask questions if things seem unclear or incomplete. I will also endeavor to connect what you tell me to your goals for therapy.
