Hello there! My name is Jennifer and I am a bilingual-Spanish speaking, licensed clinical social worker. I have been working in the mental health field for 11+ years. I obtained my master's degree from Fordham University in clinical social work and my undergraduate work focused on social work, with a minor in psychology. I love working with individuals who are looking to improve their lives and feel better from a holistic approach. Life can be difficult to manage and it's easy to feel lost and isolated in the journey. I am honored to be part of some else's journey of healing and renewal.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will work on getting to know each other by reviewing your intake documents, and exploring what brings you to therapy. Relationships take time to build, so understand that this is a continuous process in order to establish a trusting, and comfortable therapeutic space where you can be your authentic self. With the information gathered in our first session, I work with you in tailoring goals for the therapeutic process so we can work toward them. Therapy is not forever, or at least that is the hope, and my goal is to start with the end goal in mind.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my greatest strengths is my ability to constantly seek out new strategies and techniques that will help my clients. I am forever a learner, and I'm constantly immersing myself in new material to stay up to date with the latest interventions.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT involves reflecting on thought patterns, their connection to emotions and behavior, and implementing strategies to help improve experiences and manage emotions. The end result is to improve your quality of life. It is one of my top treatment modalities.

Motivational Interviewing

This method involves focusing on both intrinsic and extrinsic motivators to help prompt change in an individual's life. Like most treatment modalities, it is client centered and strengths based. It is very helpful for those struggling to implement change in their life. Change is difficult but often necessary for all human beings to grow and thrive.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation involves the active communication of information related to various mental health issues and components in order to help the client and/or their loved ones understand their struggles and manage them better. I am a firm believer in the idea that when you know better, you then expand your capacity to do better. The same is true about managing mental illness.

Psychoanalytic

This treatment modality has been used to help individuals understand how powerful their minds can be. Based on the psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist, it encompasses the idea that all people have unconscious thoughts, memories, emotions, and desires. In psychotherapy, I work with clients on exploring repressed feelings and experiences in order to heal and move forward in their life's journey.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma is often considered a shared human experience and understanding its impact is the first step in healing from it. I have worked with individuals from variety of backgrounds and cultures, who in one way or another, experienced adverse life experiences that have changed how they function within their society. I bring a practice of humility, empathy, and empowerment for others to heal from such experiences with an understanding that each individual has their own journey in that process.
