Hi, I'm Teshia. Despite your best efforts, do you find yourself on the verge of divorce? Your marriage may be a disaster, but your divorce doesn't have to be! As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with nearly 20 years of experience as a family law paralegal, I possess a unique set of skills that are invaluable to those who find themselves in the throes of divorce. In addition to providing support through one of the most difficult life transitions, understanding that the legal process of divorce has the potential to inhibit the healing process and completely devastate families, I provide my clients with a better way to divorce...a way that builds up instead of tears down...a way that refashions your family instead of leaving it shattered. Since every ending brings a new beginning, my goal as your therapist is to guide you through the uncertainty of divorce, help you regain your balance and help you lay the foundation for a HEALTHY new beginning. No matter where you are in the divorce process, whether working as your therapist or as your divorce coach, I am dedicated to helping you regroup, recover and grow. "GREAT IS THE ART OF BEGINNING, BUT GREATER IS THE ART OF ENDING." -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During your first session, I will help you to identify goals and we will explore practical action steps to help you accomplish those goals. Over the course of our work together, I will assist you with processing all of the rollercoaster emotions you are likely to experience as you go through the process of divorce. As I guide you through the healing process, I will also help you construct a positive "divorce story," as the narrative of your marriage and its ending impacts not only you, but your children and the legacy you leave them.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

Therapy should not be "one size fits all." Having experience in many treatment methods, I cater my work with clients to fit their individual needs. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Emotional Freedom Techniques are the modalities I use most frequently. I consider myself to be a trauma-informed therapist and rely heavily upon Systems Theory and Attachment Theory in my approach to therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

In addition to having extensive experience in the world of divorce, I also have experience doing couples and relationship therapy. Additionally, working at a military treatment facility for over 5 years, I am experienced in treating combat-related PTSD and other trauma-related issues, as well as being adept with military culture and working with active duty service members and their spouses.
