Are you ready to ______ again?! Let's go! I'm Katelyn Lara and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas. I went to school specifically for clinical mental health. I have the experience and the tools to help you along you life's journey! I hold a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of North Texas and a Master’s degree in Clinical/Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University. I have experience helping individuals of all ages navigate through the challenges of life. My goal is to remind you that you didn't come this far just to come this far!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In order for therapy to work, you must build a strong foundation of trust. It's all about relationship! In our first session together, I would like to get to know you a little better. We will dive into what brought you to counseling and talk about where we want to go in counseling. You are the driver!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I'm solution-focused and a great listener. I connect well with others by allowing them the freedom to be themselves.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

There are various “styles” of attachment that describe how we connect to one another. It is beneficial to remember that these attachment styles are learned from a primary attachment figure, most likely a parent. However, if something is learned, it can be unlearned, or relearned and changed. The notion of “That’s just how I’ve always been” is not an excuse to continue down the same path. An individual's attachment style is important because it represents the different ways one thinks about themselves, others and their relationships. One’s attachment style may also help explain one’s baseline level of security or anxiety and how they deal with stressful situations.

Christian Counseling

God wants us to live a bright and vibrant life in Him. Matthew 5:14-15 says, “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house." A light has purpose and so do you.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

It's all connected. I like to say, "No behavior happens for no reason." Our thoughts, emotions and behaviors are all connected. Do you not like how you feel? Let's take a dive into what thoughts are consuming your mind. Are there certain unhelpful behaviors you keep repeating? Let's explore how those feelings connected to the action.

Eclectic

There isn't a "one size fits all" approach to therapy. In my practice, I like to incorporate what works best for the client. We may try looking at concepts from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while also sprinkle in some attachment-based work. No matter what therapy is used, building a relationship of trust is the foundation of our therapeutic work together.

Trauma Informed Care

No matter if it's a "big T" or a "little T" - it's still a T! Trauma (T) comes in all types of experiences and can leave individuals confused, lost and alone. Trauma can cause "reactions" instead "responses". Trauma can cause an individual to not feel safe in the world around them. Together, we will explore possible trauma in your life to see what identifiable patterns can be found as well as ways to calm your mind.
