I’m Dr. Melissa Jones, a licensed psychologist, who has been practicing for 9 years in the field of clinical and forensic psychology. I offer teletherapy services to clients throughout CA. My training and experience has focused on working with adults who have been dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, substance misuse or addiction, and/or circumstances that have resulted in being involved in the justice system. I have worked in a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, forensic, and substance use recovery facilities.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together we will review general information about therapy and intake information, as this is our first opportunity to determine if I'm the best fit as your therapist. We will discuss what motivated you to seek therapy at this time, what challenges you may be experiencing and how long they have been occurring, and your goals and expectations for treatment, as well as my approach to therapy and common interventions used. I value and respect what you share and will utilize this to guide a plan for our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Having worked with clients who have experienced a wide range of symptoms, and at varying levels of intensity, I will bring to the sessions an understanding that everyone's experiences are unique and treatment is not one-size-fits-all. I will work from the understanding that you are the expert of yourself and tailor treatment to what will best suit your needs and particular circumstances. I utilize non-judgmental, active listening to create a safe space for you to be vulnerable and share about your authentic self.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used CBT as a treatment method with a number of clients with varying struggles over the years. It has helped clients recognize and challenge unhelpful thoughts that lead to anxiety, stress, depression, low self-confidence, and more. I have also used CBT to help clients who experience symptoms of psychosis to better able recognize their symptoms and challenge these symptoms.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have utilized DBT in my work with clients throughout my training and years as a licensed clinician. DBT has helped my clients practice mindfulness skills to better manage many life stressors, learn ways to recognize and challenge unhelpful thoughts and/or behavior patterns, and implement change.

Forensic Psychology

I have years of experience working with clients who are involved in the justice system and are court-mandated to receive treatment. In these years I have also conducted a number of risk assessments and written reports for the courts.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I have utilized Mindfulness-based therapy in my work with clients to help them improve stress, impulsivity, anxiety, depression, and to help manage the distress that can be associated with psychosis or other symptoms.
