I am a licensed psychologist with many years spent helping children, teens, and families in schools, hospitals, and clinics. Although I bring experience, I also bring curiosity, patience, respect, and positivity to help find new perspectives to difficult problems. I view my work as a partnership in which we collaborate on developing a vision of change and hope that I hold onto, no matter the turns and bumps in the road. In this partnership, I focus on empowering you to use tools to become a happier and healthier version of yourself.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

It is hard to start with a new therapist, and I want to help you feel as comfortable with the process as possible. In the first session, I will listen carefully to what brings you to seek help. For children, my approach can be playful and humorous, but also focused on learning about you and what you want to change. My goal is to discover how we could work together to take on at least one of your challenges. At the end of the session, I will share my sense of what path forward is needed. My wish is that you leave with a new sense of hope about how things could be better.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths are my patience, understanding, calmness, and sense of hope. My many years of experience have given me a wealth of knowledge about psychological difficulties and therapeutic strategies, but also deep curiosity about and respect for the challenges that my clients carry with them.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have over 20 years of experience as a school-based therapist, and a major focus of my approach has been using cognitive and behavioral approaches to manage symptoms and unhelpful thoughts. I find this approach very compatible with my efforts to empower clients to learn new strategies and grow untapped inner resources to enhance well-being.

Narrative

I took a yearlong course at the former Family Institute of Cambridge, MA on narrative therapy. I also directed a treatment program for teens that focused on narrative and family-centered approaches to bringing about growth and well-being. I find the narrative approach to problems that affect clients to be respectful and hopeful. In addition, I appreciate the perspective that uses clients' existing personal, family, and other resources to develop a new "self-story" that opens a fresh avenue to healing.

Family Therapy

In my years of practice in clinical and school settings, I have learned that we always function best with the support of our team, and family, no matter the configuration, is our team. Often it is helpful to engage family "team members" in a manner that helps clients to feel heard, supported, and joined in their path to growth and healing.
