Hi there, I'm Sarah! Do you feel as though you simply cannot stay afloat? Do you have difficulties managing emotional distress due to trauma? Are you struggling to keep up with all of your relationships while trying to balance being a *new* mom? Look no further, I'm here to help! I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor with approximately 10 years of community mental health experience. I graduated from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in 2012 with my Bachelors degree in Psychology and obtained my Masters degree from Radford University in 2014. I’m certified by the Virginia Board of Counseling to supervise Residents in Counseling and provide individual and/or group supervision. As a trauma-focused therapist, I'm here to help you manage distress, increase coping and relaxation skills, and process your individualized experiences in a safe place. I am also trained in perinatal mental health, so that I can better help you navigate your unique path throughout pregnancy and postpartum - whether that be perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (postpartum depression) or adjusting to parenthood. Specialties: childhood trauma (ages 4-18), perinatal mood and anxiety, generalized anxiety, depression, & trauma.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have had the privilege of working with clients from 4 years old to 75 years old. Each period in our lives comes with unique challenges, as well as rewards. My biggest strength is the ability to listen without judgement and learn about who a person truly is and who they want to become. I am honored to be a part of your journey!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Utilized in almost all of my outpatient counseling sessions. CBT allows clients to be aware of inaccurate and negative thoughts so that they can challenge them and respond more effectively.

Trauma-Focused CBT

TF-CBT is utilized as a treatment with children who have experienced trauma. It allows for children to decrease symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress through psychoeducation, coping, gradual exposure, cognitive processing, and a caregiver component.
