I am caring, compassionate, and a very good listener. I am a Christian, wife of a Veteran, mother, and grandmother. My heritage is Caribbean-American. I grew up in South Florida with four sisters and two brothers. I was very independent at a very young age and willing to help out wherever. I am a musician starting with piano in elementary school, then clarinet in middle school, and bass clarinet and bassoon in high school. I love music and find it beneficial in every aspect of life. I decided to grow my family before pursuing a career. I decided to pursue a career in the mental health field because of a family member being diagnosed with a severe mental health disorder. I earned my AA in Psychology, then a dual degree in Psychology and Behavioral Science. After my undergrad, I went on to receive my master's in social work. I have worked with Veterans, homeless, hospice, young adults, children, elders, couples and individuals with severe mental health diagnoses. In my pursuit to help my family member, I became even more passionate about mental health and reducing the negative stigma attached to it. This passion I share with everyone I encounter.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During your first session you should expect to be well listen to and feel at home and supported by a caring compassionate therapist with your best interest in mind. You will leave feeling as though you can have hope for your future. You will leave with a since of purpose, inspiration and direction for your life.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and I use worksheets with this modality to help the client refocus their thought process. I use dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), to educate the client about their triggers and which coping skill may be the most effective. I use solution focus, as a short quick form to help clients find quick solutions to their many needs. I use motivational interviewing (MI) to help engage the client and determine where they are in their willingness to make changes. I use mindfulness-based cognitive therapy ( MBCT) which is non-judgmental and combines cognitive behavioral therapy with mindful meditation. I also use homework and journaling as tools to help the client reinforce what they have learned.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have had many years of experience working with people with trauma and severe mental illness. I am very effective in helping people who struggle with depression, anxiety, and self-esteem issues.
