Hello! My name is Michael Rosewood and I'm a LMSW-C ACTRP. As a clinical psychotherapist, I'm all about creating connections and fostering a sense of belonging. Think of me as your guide through life's ups and downs, offering a warm and welcoming space where you can be yourself without any judgment. Together, we'll build a supportive therapeutic rapport, explore your inner world, and work towards creating the life you deserve. So, let's embark on this adventure together and discover the strength and resilience within you. I'm here to support you on your journey towards healing and personal growth!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In your first session with me, you can expect a warm and welcoming environment where we'll get to know each other and discuss your goals for therapy. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and that you feel like we're a good fit! We'll explore your concerns, past experiences, and current compensatory strategies to tailor our approach to best meet your needs. Together, we'll establish a collaborative therapeutic relationship built on trust and mutual respect, laying the foundation for our work together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I'm a neurodivergent therapist, and in my opinion my ADHD is my superpower. Throughout the course of talk psychotherapy sessions, it may feel as though the sessions are directionless, unstructured, or random, as though there's no "point" or "purpose" to the dialogue. Rest assured, that while my ADHD may bounce the conversation around from talking point to talking point, the discussion is actively being synthesized, and we are actively mapping the internal constellations of your psyche. My ADHD allows me to keep track of several different socioemotional and psychological concepts at once, actively hold them in a cognitive queue, before I relay all of these interconnected concepts back to you. My role as your psychotherapist is to support you in connecting the dots between concepts that may feel entirely separate and unrelated; however, when we zoom out and reflect, we can identify that they are intricately interwoven and typically connect to intrinsic core, primordial wounds. Once we've established the connections, and reflected on the mapping of your inner experience, that's when the collaborative transformational experience begins as you move forward on your path to wellness.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I absolutely love working with other folks in the LGBTQ+ family, whether it's topics regarding sexual orientation, gender identity exploration, internalized homophobia or transphobia, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, coming out or life transitions. I am here to provide guidance, empathy, and support tailored to your unique needs and experiences.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

In my practice, I've found Person-Centered Therapy, also known as Rogerian therapy, to be a profoundly empathetic and client-centered approach. This modality emphasizes creating a therapeutic environment characterized by unconditional positive regard, empathy, and understanding. As a psychotherapist, I strive to embody these qualities to facilitate a safe space where clients feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. I prioritize the client's experience and autonomy, allowing them to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace. By fostering a nonjudgmental atmosphere, clients often feel empowered to delve into their innermost struggles and work towards self-actualization.

Gender-affirming therapy

Gender-affirming therapy is an essential framework within my practice, especially in today's diverse and inclusive society. This approach recognizes and respects everyone's individual gender identity and gender expression, affirming their self-defined gender rather than imposing binary gender roles and gender norms upon them. I prioritize creating a supportive and validating environment where individuals exploring and/or affirming their gender identity feel respected, understood, and empowered. Collaboration and advocacy for gender-affirming care are integral components, ensuring clients have access to resources, support networks, and affirming healthcare professionals.

Humanistic

Humanistic therapy encompasses a holistic approach that values the inherent worth and potential of every person. In my practice, I integrate humanistic principles to foster self-awareness, personal growth, and a sense of fulfillment. This modality emphasizes the importance of self-actualization, personal responsibility, and authentic living. By nurturing a therapeutic relationship grounded in empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard, clients are encouraged to explore their unique experiences, values, and aspirations. Humanistic therapy empowers clients to tap into their innate capacity for growth and self-fulfillment, fostering a sense of meaning and purpose in their lives.

Interpersonal

Interpersonal therapy (IPT) focuses on improving interpersonal relationships and addressing interpersonal issues that contribute to psychological distress. In my practice, I utilize IPT to help clients explore and navigate their relational patterns, communication styles, and social support networks. By identifying maladaptive interpersonal patterns and addressing unresolved conflicts, clients can cultivate healthier relationships and improve their overall well-being. IPT emphasizes the connection between interpersonal functioning and mental health, making it a valuable approach for clients struggling with relationship difficulties, grief, role transitions, and social isolation.

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed therapy is a crucial framework for supporting individuals who have experienced complex trauma and/or chronic, toxic stress. In my practice, I prioritize creating a safe and empowering therapeutic environment where clients feel validated, respected, and understood. Trauma-informed care involves recognizing the prevalence and impact of trauma, understanding its manifestations, and integrating trauma-responsive approaches into treatment. I prioritize building trust, promoting autonomy, and fostering collaboration with clients to navigate their healing journey at their own pace. By incorporating trauma-informed principles such as safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment, clients can experience profound healing and transformation.
