I am a licensed clinical social worker with 8 years of experience in the field of mental health. I have specialized in trauma since my graduate training and worked with young adults and adults facing a variety of challenges including childhood abuse/neglect, sexual abuse, abusive adult relationships and "single" traumatic events. I have specialized training and experience working with first responders and veterans as well as men who have experienced trauma including sexual abuse. I provide psycho-education and skills building and do re-processing work around past events when appropriate.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I will share briefly about my professional background, training and approach and provide a brief overview of the treatment process. The majority of the session will be spent getting to know you and what is bringing you into treatment and what you hope to achieve while in treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my experience working with a variety of populations is a strength I bring to my work, including adults with mental health and addiction challenges, young adults experiencing homelessness and incarceration, and first responders and veterans, amongst others. I provide a welcoming and open space to explore core issues and difficulties in present functioning. I am also passionate about providing services to men who have experienced trauma, including sexual trauma, and have specialized experience and training to effectively serve these clients.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I am EMDR trained and utilize EMDR to address ongoing impacts of past traumatic experiences including single events, recent events/stressors as well as childhood and relational trauma.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

My graduate training was primarily in CBT which I love because it allows clients to "become their own therapist." CBT is based on findings that our thoughts are the primary determinants of our feelings and behaviors. I utilize CBT to help clients identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop more helpful ways of thinking. I also utilize CBT to explore negative core beliefs from childhood and how these fuel negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors in the present.

Mind-body approach

I believe it is essential to develop awareness both of our thought processes (cognitions) and our bodies and nervous systems. I help client develop this "interoception," or felt sense of their bodies, and teach and coach clients in utilizing quick self-regulation skills to practice relaxation throughout the day in order to minimize the negative impacts of stress and to reduce anxiety and trauma symptoms and promote trauma healing in the present.
