If you are looking to work with a “real" person, I will meet you where you are, and you will be encouraged to be your true self, unapologetically. Bad humor (usually in the form of puns or dad jokes), geeking out over the latest Marvel show/movie, and discussing the latest video game releases can be commonplace in your sessions. Additionally, you will receive the time of someone who truly loves to help other people. My passion has always been to help other people heal and grow. Some things you may have gone through might be uncomfortable to talk about, but I will take every step possible to support you through your journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I feel that is always wonderful to provide you with a proper expectation of what is coming, if you decide to choose me as your therapist. Within the first session, I will do everything within my utmost power to provide a space of safety, non-judgement, and support to you; giving you the floor to share what is happening. With it being our first time meeting, there may be more questions that are designed to help me understand more of your background and the way you think. Rest assured though, I operate on the premise of permission. You are always in a position to share what you feel is comfortable for you, and you are welcome to decline sharing things you are not ready to talk about. I want you to be in the driver seat of your counseling.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One thing that I take pride in is that I have a strong desire to learn, whether it is through academics, learning about my clients, or even learning about myself. I actively seek out opportunities with other professionals in the field in which I can sharpen my skills and ensure I am updated on the best practices. I want to use whatever knowledge I can acquire to aid in giving you the best possible care you deserve. Something that I share with all my clients is that YOU are the most important person in the session. I firmly believe in empowering you to make any and all decisions in your life. I will never be in the position of "executing authority" over you or telling you to make decisions you don't agree with. My core value is to give you the support and space to grow into the person you are capable of being, all while providing assistance and care as you figure it out. You will never be alone.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In CBT sessions, the counselor typically serves the role of a teacher that aids you in growing awareness of these components. If you are able to learn how your emotions, thoughts and behaviors are connected, the hope is that you can enact change on the troubling part of your life. For example, if you are coming into counseling because you are feeling stressed out in life, these may be some things you would do in counseling: 1. Examine the behaviors you are taking that are leading you to being stressed. 2. Modifying the behaviors that are stressing you, by replacing them with healthy alternatives. 3. Exploring the way you think about yourself when stressed to determine if your mindset is negatively impacting your overall mood.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

The approach of Solution Focused Therapy is designed to lean on the belief that you as a person already have all of the tools needed to be successful in life. Some people believe that if you are coming to therapy, that must mean you are broken or weak. We at Reclamation and Recovery Counseling believe that is the furthest thing from the truth; we know you are capable, strong, and resilient. In Solution Focused Therapy, we take a step back and examine all of the times in your life where you conquered challenges and overcame the adversities you faced. In these sessions, we work to reshape situations that appear negative on the surface and learn to look into how you were actually strong enough to handle them.

EMDR

A typical EMDR session begins with the therapist gently guiding the client to pinpoint a problem or event that will be the target of the treatment. The client calls to mind the disturbing issue or event, what s/he saw, felt, heard, thought, etc., and what the current negative thoughts and beliefs are about that event. The client simultaneously focuses on an alternating bilateral stimulus (ABS) and the disturbing material, and just notices whatever comes to mind without making any effort to control direction or content. Each person will process information uniquely, based on personal experienced The EMDR technique does two very important things. First, it "unlocks" the negative memories and emotions stored in the nervous system, and second, it helps the brain to successfully process the experience. Sets of ABS continue until the memory becomes less disturbing and is associated with positive thoughts and beliefs about one's self: for example, "I did the best I could." During EMDR, the client may experience intense emotions, but by the end of the session, most people report a great reduction in the level of disturbance.
