Hello! ! My name is Lorena Vizcarra-Márquez and I am a bilingual, Spanish speaking therapist licensed in the state of CA. I received my Masters in Social Work from USC. I have over 8 years of experience in the field working with adults, teens, couples, and families. My clinical experience ranges from mental health outpatient programs, non-profits organizations, field-based community mental health, and school-based social work.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

For many clients, the first session can feel intimidating, uncomfortable, and stressful. I would like to validate these feelings and acknowledge your courage in taking this big step in your journey. My goal is to make you feel safe and comfortable as you embark in your healing journey. Our first session will mainly focus on getting to know you and your needs. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. The client will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the therapy process. My goal is to help you feel comfortable and understand your needs and goals during our first meeting.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My training is rooted in cultural sensitivity, strength based approaches, mindfulness, trauma-informed care, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). My approach is collaborative and compassionate. I strongly believe in creating a safe space where you will feel heard and encouraged to be your authentic self. I take a compassionate, client centered approach that honors your story, including your cultural experiences and values. I have experience working with a diverse client population ranging from teens to adults and older adults. Throughout my experience I have learned that each client comes to therapy with their own set of unique needs and goals. I use an eclectic approach in order to tailor each therapy session to the unique needs of every client.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

In my current practice, I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, trauma, life transitions, grief, communication difficulties and conflict in relationships. I specialize in working with women who are struggling with life transitions, anxiety, relationship issues, and other life stressors. As a Latina, first-gen, daughter of immigrants, I also understand the unique experiences that shape the life of a first-generation adult child. I work with adult children of immigrants in exploring some of the ways that the intersection of culture, identity, and other unique challenges have impacted their adulthood and help heal attachment wounds. Whether you are dealing with generational expectations, struggles with self-worth, or life transitions, my goal is to help you cultivate resilience in order to help you thrive in your personal and professional life.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

I use attachment-based treatment in my practice to help clients understand how early relationships shape their emotional responses and behaviors in adulthood. Together we explore how these early experiences may be influencing our current relationships. This approach empowers clients to build healthier connections and emotional resilience.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT can help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns that influence their emotions and behaviors. We will work together to develop healthier coping strategies.

Compassion Focused

I integrate Compassion-Focused therapy into my practice by helping clients build a better and healthier relationship with themselves. This approach cultivate self-acceptance and encourages healing in a judgmental, empathetic space.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

In my practice, I utilize mindfulness based techniques to help clients build awareness of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in the present moment. We will work together in order to help you increase emotional regulation and develop healthier coping strategies.

Trauma Informed Care

I utilize trauma-informed care to create a safe and supportive environment for my clients. My goal is to help clients process and heal at their own pace while fostering resilience.
