I am a licensed clinical social worker, based in New York, with over a decade of experience. I'm knowledgeable in a variety of diagnoses and in how to manage a range of concerns from difficulty with daily living to severe mental illness. I have worked in an inpatient hospital, outpatient clinics, schools, residential treatment facility, correctional facility, and in client's home.
In our first session together, I like to discuss what therapy is all about and how I can be helpful to you. An important part of therapy is building a trusting relationship. If the relationship doesn't work everything else is much harder. So my profile is intentionally brief because instead of reading through a bunch of stuff ... why not schedule a session to see if we're a good fit.
I understand the value of someone sharing their story. I don't take for granted that you may be sharing your most inner thoughts and secrets and you choose to do it with me. I have been successful at building strong therapeutic relationships. I believe this success is because I don't enter a session as an expert, although I have practical and academic knowledge, but as a listening ear who's also cheering you on to bettering your life.
Sometimes our thoughts can run amuck. I explore with clients the thoughts that work for us and those that may not.
I understand the importance of how spirituality/faith can assist one's healing journey. I am comfortable utilizing one's belief system in addition to therapeutic tools in the therapy process.
I have significant experience working in a forensic psychiatric setting. I am familiar with assisting those who experience severe mental illness with best practices to manage it.
