Laura Rae Venditti, LCPC, LMHC. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, (LCPC). I obtained my B.A. in Psychology from Saint Xavier University, where I minored in Pastoral Ministry. I obtained my M.A. in Gerontological Counseling from Adler University. I have serviced clients from 5 (yrs.) through 90 (yrs.) in academic, clinical, and nursing home settings. I approach therapy within a client-centered climate, using the tenets of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), through a solution-focused lens. I help clients identify obstacles and explore solutions, believing that if one wants something to change, one has to be willing to help foster change. The client and I will explore barriers and remove roadblocks that have denied them their joy. I work with my clients to explore their vision of a better life in a quest to make it their reality. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, and I especially find joy in time spent with my grandchildren. I take advantage of the benefits of exercise and its contribution to attaining balance and minimizing stress. One of my favorite pastimes is baseball. I greatly enjoy attending White Sox games. I love the advantages of living in the city where I can walk, run, or bike, most anywhere I need to go.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The client and the therapist will review the intake the client will have completed previous to the first intake session. There the therapist will fill in the blanks, in anticipation of expanding the therapist's knowledge about the client.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel my strengths lie in my ability to listen, support, and empathize, while encouraging the positivity that can be introduced into one's life when managing anxiety, depression, and relational issues.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

A primary focus lies in identifying thoughts and behaviors, and examining the outcomes to current patterns, and making decisions to change them in the event the current patterns of thoughts and behaviors are not benefiting the client. However, this may require periods of being uncomfortable, when one is forced to face experiences, emotions, and anxieties that have been suppressed. It is in and during this forced element of therapy, that the real healing can occur.
