Empowering Others to Live Happier Lives. I am Jennifer Evans, LPC, LMHC. I am a board-certified therapist in multiple states and over 20 years of counseling experience, with a proven success of reaching remission in Depression with my clients in one session; this is within the 95th percentile of clinicians measured. I am passionate about effecting change and helping work with people to achieve insight in order to gain maximum potential and reach their most desired visions and goals. I know personally and professionally, how difficult it is to get here and I am proud of your first step and commitment to change. I know I can be of valued support as we work together to reach success, insight, and overcome emotional and psychosocial stressors. A little more about me; I was born and raised in Florida. I did my undergraduate at Florida State University, and moved to Virginia to attend Eastern Virginia Medical School, where I studied clinical counseling and received my Master’s in Art Therapy. As a military spouse, we relocated many times, having to redevelop my career each duty station, which gave me a myriad of experiences with various populations. This has lead me to focus on occupational counseling and the effects of stress on our mental health. My passion for treatment is trauma and life experiences that lead us to feel fearful, unsafe, and saddened; sometimes with no explanation as to why we feel the way we do. I work with my client’s in a person-centered format with cognitive-behavioral underpinnings and psychoeducation to not only work through and build a better understanding of ourselves but the experiences and beliefs that built us and ways to endure and build resiliency to better manager those feelings so they are not as overwhelming in the future.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we will make brief introduction and then build on the reason for visit through a solution-focused approach. I will focus more on reason for visit then ask questions to build a clinical impression. I will share that impression and we will then build goals for our future sessions together and a plan for our treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My passion for treatment is trauma and life experiences that lead us to feel fearful, unsafe, and saddened; sometimes with no explanation as to why we feel the way we do. I have a strong passion for career counseling as well and looking at how our work environment often impedes on our day to day lives and mental health. I have been noted to have a strong clinical diagnostic approach, using information from neuropsychological research to help you understand the ways the mind and body connects and predict not only how we act and react, but also how these build universal constructs through everyone. In one session, I am able to help you feel more connected, validated, and have a clear framework to build from to help improve whatever is bothering you and want to seek treatment for.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

My main theoretical stint is through a cognitive behavioral model. I often do a lot of psycho-education about why we think/feel/act the way we do and how the brain processes information to make behaviors predictable. I have an extensive knowledge of trauma and how this is seen in our everyday actions/feeling/thoughts, I often will discuss how trauma is shaping our present and ways we can interject to stop the negative cycling we find ourselves in.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I work with my clients in a person-centered format with cognitive behavioral underpinnings and psychoeducation to not only work through and build a better understanding of ourselves, but the experiences and beliefs that built us and ways to endure and build resiliency to better manage those feelings so they are not as overwhelming in the future. Many times, these thoughts can affect the decisions we make and our current behaviors. We will work through these to build better responses and approaches to behavior that have lasting impacts to success in the future and our relationships.
