Hi! I have been a licensed clinical social worker for the past 40 years, and I am licensed to practice in NJ. I am in the process of reinstating my NY license. I grew up on Long Island, NY and attended Adelphi University for my Master Degree. Later, moved to NJ. Today, I live in VA and have been doing online therapy for the past 2+ years.
In the first session, after introductions, I usually ask them what it is they would like to work on in the sessions. Then offering a plan on how we will proceed, if they are in agreement.
I generally can make good connections with my clients. Sometimes in session, my sense of humor will show itself, and I will hear a depressed person laugh.
CBT shows us how to more effectively communicate with others. It can help us feel more confident in how we communicate with each other and get more emotional satisfaction from the exchange.
Help clients find their love for each other like they had in the first year of their relationship.
Psychodynamic therapy is useful in bringing parent and child closer through the understanding of role differences, team work and learning how to nurture each other.
Here again, DBT can help us feel more influential when we convey our messages.
