I will talk to you about the intake paperwork you read before we meet. I want you to fully understand the limits of a counseling relationship. I will ask you lots of questions. You might feel uncomfortable at first, because I will learn details about your life, and you will know very little about me. I don't expect you to tell me everything the first time we meet. It will take time to build a trusting relationship and for you to feel comfortable sharing private information. I will move at your pace.
My job is to hold space for you as you explore your life and search for answers to your questions. I may not have the answers but I will sit with you and attempt to guide you in the direction you desire for your life.
I believe it is part of the human experience to seek out answers to our questions about loss, suffering, and the meaning of life. I trust my clients have the answers and my role in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe space for them to explore and find their answers.
