**THANK YOU FOR YOUR INQUIRY! PLEASE SCHEDULE A FREE CONSULT BEFORE SCHEDULING AN INTAKE TO DISCUSS WHAT KIND OF SUPPORT YOU ARE SEEKING.** Hi there, I’m Stephanie- a mental health counselor specializing in parental/caregiver mental health and early childhood development (ages 6 and under). Whether parenthood has you feeling burnt out or short-fused (been there!), or your child is struggling with big feelings or baffling behaviors, therapy can help you and your child thrive in ways that support the whole family. As we tackle tough challenges together, I’ll provide concrete tools to help de-escalate problems in the short-term while setting the stage for resilient and healthy relationships in the long-run.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Therapy with me can include individual therapy for the caregiver, joint parent-child therapy, family therapy or a combination of these. I aim to help parents move away from reactivity and self-blame and towards proactive and confident leadership, all while still feeling connected to their child(ren). Parents can expect to leave sessions feeling less alone in their struggles, more confident and capable of handling the most difficult parenting moments, and more connected to their child(ren). Child-related concerns parents commonly come to me with include: intense and frequent emotional meltdowns, challenges with listening and following directions, uncooperative behaviors, separation anxiety or other big fears/worries, daycare/preschool problems, sibling or peer challenges, parent-child relationship difficulties, emotional dysregulation, sleep & bedtime stress, and trouble adjusting to family transitions, difficult times, grief or loss. My training in expressive therapies and parent-child work allows me to bring to parent-child sessions playful and interactive activities that keep little ones engaged with their parents (yes, even from behind a computer screen!). Many times, parents seek counseling with me (without their child present) to address parenting-related challenges that feel unmanageable. For example, parents who feel constantly triggered and consumed by their children, parents struggling with a particular stage of parenthood, parents wishing to break outdated cycles, couples with different parenting styles struggling to get on the same page, parents grieving the image they had of parenthood, or parents feeling intensely disconnected from their child. Please feel free to reach out if you can relate to any of this.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I strive to provide a judgment-free space that infuses respect, empathy, compassion, understanding, and cultural humility in my practice. I work with individuals and families of all backgrounds. A guiding principle in my work is the belief that we are all doing the best we can with the resources we have available to us. If we work together, I won’t judge you for what you’ve done or for what you haven’t done. I will meet you where you’re at, highlight the strengths of both you and your child, and approach you with deep empathy, hopefulness, open-mindedness, and a sense of humor. Together we will focus on where you hope to go, building up your resources every step of the way.

My treatment methods

Integrative

My approach to therapy integrates my deep understanding of emotion regulation, mindfulness, attachment, and child development. The specialized treatments I provide include: Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Theraplay, Integrative Attachment Family Therapy, Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), and Art Therapy. I aim to provide a safe, consistent, and supportive environment. From there, we will work towards developing healthier ways of relating to yourself and your child(ren). This might involve learning new coping strategies, improving emotional regulation, and practicing new relational behaviors.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT)

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy is a specialized, evidence-based approach that empowers parents to strengthen their connection with their children (usually ages 2-7) while addressing challenging behaviors. In PCIT, I provide real-time coaching during parent-child interactions. This coaching helps parents learn and apply new skills as they interact with their child. This therapy is rooted in the principles of attachment, positive reinforcement, and communication, with the goal of enhancing the parent-child relationship.
