Most of my experience has been with at-risk youth and victims of domestic violence. However, I have treated many clients with issues related to depression and anxiety and I strongly believe that many of these symptoms arise as a result of unresolved trauma. I have a Master's in Clinical Social Work from New York University's Silver School of Social Work. California Board of Behavioral Sciences Licensed Clinical Social Worker #83501. I also have a certification from the International Association of Trauma Professionals (IATP) as a Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP).
In our first session, I will ask you about what you are currently struggling with and how it currently impacts your life. I will work with you to identify your goals for therapy, and you will have an opportunity to ask me any questions you have about my background as a therapist or my treatment approach.
I believe that my biggest strength lies in my ability to empathize and support clients. If you are struggling (with things like stress, anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, parenting issues, low self-esteem, guilt, shame) and doing it alone is not going well, I may be able to help.
Psychodynamic theory is based on the understanding that our earliest experiences and relationships shape how we behave and interact with others later in life. Learning about the dynamics within one's family of origin, childhood traumatic events, grief/loss, and personal values can be beneficial in examining one's current functioning and relationships. I can assist you with identifying any patterns or cycles of dysfunction that may be hindering you from living your best life.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a victim advocate for those who have experienced Intimate Partner Violence (domestic violence). In my practice I have assisted countless clients with processing traumatic events and their accompanying emotions. I believe that I see through a trauma "lens" and can recognize how the emotional and physical aspects of victimization impact mental health and relationships.
