Seeking therapy can feel scary but you're making the right choice. You deserve a safe space to heal and grow. I specialize in integrative individual and couples therapy for the mind and body. My perspective on therapy starts with the central belief that if you listen to your clients, they will always tell you what's going on. While that may seem very basic, unfortunately, there is very little listening going on these days. When we are listened to and are unconditionally respected and accepted, we instinctively have the right stuff inside of us to figure out our issues. That's how we become empowered . That's how we grow. Whether you're dealing with overwhelming anxiety, relationship issues or depression. In our sessions together, I'll meet you with compassion, understanding and respect. And I will use the latest evidence-based techniques to support you in your journey Helping you find that inner strength and resolve is what makes me uniquely qualified to help.
In our first session, we will briefly introduce ourselves to each other. I will ask you some questions about where you grew up, your family, what you do for a living and what you want from your life. Hopefully, you will ask me some questions as well. After all, therapy is a learning experience for both of us and you should know about me as possible. From there, we will talk about why you are seeking therapy right now, and what, if any, immediate goals you have for therapy. That way, I will know what your expectation from therapy are and how I can support you more fully.
I feel I am especially helpful in dealing with anxiety, depression and identity issues. We will delve into family history, childhood experiences and traumas to develop a better sense of how you came to believe what we now accept as truth. But is it really your emotional truth, or is it holding you back from being the "authentic you"? As we build our understanding and acceptance of the "authentic you" , we can begin to formulate a set of goals for areas identified for change to allow for personal growth. That's how we challenge beliefs that do not work and hold us back and not allow us to grow which is so basic and necessary for life. That is how we grow. Helping you find that inner strength and resolve is what makes me uniquely qualified to help.
I work primarily with patients dealing with trauma, depression or anxiety. I have found over the years that most people know what they are struggling with but don't feel safe expressing it to others. So they build a wall around them with heightens their sense of isolation and fear and helplessness. I help my clients verbally process what they are feeling . In doing so, they begin to understand the difference between their perceptions and misperceptions of life. Developing that understanding is how we "grow" into our authentic self and tackle the problems that have lead us off track.
Often in therapy, Clients are looking for immediate help for a particular issue or perceived problem. CBT can really help zero-in on the issues and provide more immediate support and relief.
Trauma therapy is all about "touching" your trauma and recognizing that "you" are not "your trauma." We will work on developing the strength to identify the trauma you are dealing with and recognizing that it is in the past and should not control your here and now or future.
