Hello! My name is Meredith and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Health Services Provider who has been working in this field for 10 years. I have seen a wide array of challenges that we, as humans, experience on a regular basis. I have worked with both adolescents and adults, and I enjoy working with both. Building a therapeutic alliance with you, we will determine together how to best navigate whatever allowed you to make the courageous decision to seek help.
In our first session, it's important to me for us to establish a level of trust. Part of that comes from simply explaining what to expect from counseling sessions with me, and I want to be certain you're aware of your rights. I very much want to get to know more about you and what brought you to therapy in the first place. It is my hope and belief that we'll be able to establish a therapeutic alliance that will grow as we continue to work together.
My greatest strengths are building therapeutic alliances, allowing others to feel safe and helping them find what's helpful for them. I know everyone wants and deserves to be heard, seen and believed. While I am not of the belief that therapists are here to offer advice, I do believe we are here to work together to find solutions to coping with issues that may feel insurmountable.
I believe you are the expert about you and your life. It is my honor to assist you in finding your authentic self and the life you are seeking. Together, we will work toward achieving that.
When we accept our current circumstances and the things outside of our control, we can then begin to commit to changes that will positively alter the circumstances that are in your control. Through mindfulness and other therapeutic techniques, ACT has been a widely used and successful modality.
Our cognition, the way we think, directly affects the way we behave and the choices we make. Life can be hard ,and we become easily overwhelmed. By breaking down each unhelpful thought and behavior pattern into smaller bits, we begin to see that changes are not as overwhelming as we thought.
One type of experiential therapy tool that I find quite useful is role play. When we are able to speak to or speak as someone else (though they are not physically present) there is often a catharsis and insights that wouldn't have been discovered otherwise.
DBT is an excellent modality for people who struggle with anxiety and depression, among many other struggles. We learn to slow down, breathe through challenging moments, and use mindfulness to alter our minds and bodies to a calmer state.
