Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Heather Suggs and I enjoy interacting with people. Therefore, helping others seems natural. I assist clients in navigating their world as it currently exists. I am a balanced mix of creating sessions that are goal and outcome-oriented while also interweaving interpersonal and client-centered approaches. I believe these approaches help clients solve their problems and meet their goals.
I utilize cognitive/behavioral, psychodynamic, and mindfulness approaches and interventions. I consider my approach to therapy integrative and grounded in the philosophical roots of client-centered therapy. You can also expect me to emphasize insight, skill-building, and interpersonal processes in our therapy sessions. If you believe I might be a good match for you, I encourage you to reach out so we can decide how to move forward. I have a Master of Art (M.A.) degree in counseling (1996) and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology (1994)
You can expect the following from me interpersonally. My approach is warm, relaxed, and individualized to your needs. I prefer an interactive style and to build on your existing strengths. I like to use a variety of evidence-based approaches, focusing on education to ensure you have the tools and skills needed to help yourself. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I am committed to approaching your presenting issues with dignity, respect, empathy, and without judgement. As my client, you will feel supported and challenged to develop insight and self-awareness into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Therapy is not just about talking. It is also about learning positive strategies to help facilitate coping, enhance the ability to work through life's struggles and challences, and build resilience. Please be selective about the counselor you choose. It is an important choice, and you deserve to feel comfortable with whomever you choose. Reaching out for help takes a lot of courage. You have taken an important first step by signing up here with Grow Therapy. I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals. Congratulations. Regarding professionalism, it is my goal to contact you within 12-24 hours of receiving a message from you. Rest assured; I will always get back to you. In the meantime, I would like you to familiarize yourself with my current availability on my calendar where you can schedule an initial session. If there is a day/time that is not available, please let me know. I will see if I can accommodate your specific request. Keep in mind that this forum does not provide emergency services. Therefore, if you/they require urgent assistance and are in crisis (i.e., suicidal/homicidal thoughts/attempts) please call 1-800-273-TALK (24 hour/day), dial 911, or visit a Mind 24/7 near you. I look forward to hearing from you! "A MAN IS BUT A PRODUCT OF HIS THOUGHTS. WHAT HE THINKS HE BECOMES." Ghandi
My experiences with this treatment method has been successful, especially with clients who are ready for a positive change in their lives. This is a proactive modality and can ensure new opportunities for change.
Attachment based therapy looks at dysfunctional attachment styles and how to improve issues of abandonment, codependency and RAD. Clients will learn about trust and issues related to their self esteem/self-worth
I have been using CBT therapy for over 20 years. CBT analyzes your thoughts to see if they are “working for you.” Also, if you are ready for change, we will work together to change behaviors. I use CBT with clients affected by addictions, parenting and relationship issues and depression/anxiety
EMDR is a useful tool for clients with trauma. EMDR allows the client to "move" the trauma, allowing the person to have a memory, not a trauma memory. It is a very effective modality.
