Hello and welcome! I’m Michelle, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with more than 20 years of experience working in the field of behavioral health. I was drawn to counseling by a curiosity about human behavior—how our thoughts, relationships, and life experiences shape the way we see ourselves and the world. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Austin Peay State University and a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I’m licensed in North Carolina (LCMHC), Tennessee (LPC), Kentucky (LPCC-S), and Georgia (LPC).

I also bring flexibility to my work, tailoring my approach to each client’s unique needs and drawing from a variety of therapeutic techniques.

Throughout my career, I’ve learned that there is always more to a person’s story than what we first see. I bring that understanding to each session, listening with compassion, curiosity, and respect. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, burnout, or a life transition, you don’t have to sort through it alone. My approach is warm and supportive, with honest conversations and thoughtful challenges. I’ll meet you with understanding while encouraging accountability as you grow. Together, we’ll identify what’s within your control, strengthen emotional regulation, and build practical tools you can use outside of sessions to improve daily life and support lasting change.

First session

In our first session, I’ll take time to get to know you, understand what brings you to counseling, and hear what you hope to gain. You can share your concerns, goals, and relevant history at a pace that feels comfortable. I’ll ask what you’ve tried before, what has helped, and what patterns may be affecting your daily life. We’ll discuss what you can expect from counseling and whether my approach feels like a good fit. You’ll have time to ask questions and share any concerns, too. Before we finish, we’ll identify a goal you want to achieve in counseling.

Strengths

I bring understanding, attentive listening, and a focus on empowerment to each session. I want you to feel heard while gaining the confidence and tools to make changes that matter to you.

Ideal clients

I work best with adults who feel overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns they want to change. You may be navigating stress, burnout, a life transition, difficulty managing emotions, or challenges with boundaries and communication. My approach is compassionate, structured, and direct. We’ll work on understanding what’s happening, building practical coping skills, and creating healthier routines. If you’re open to self-reflection and trying new skills between sessions, we may be a good fit.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use a practical, supportive approach grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Together, we’ll explore how your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and choices connect. You’ll learn to recognize unhelpful patterns, manage stress, regulate emotions, solve problems, and build coping skills you can use in daily life. Between sessions, I may invite you to try a brief reflection, journal prompt, coping strategy, or small action step. This gives you a chance to practice what we discuss and see what works for you.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I use a person-centered approach, taking time to understand your experiences, strengths, needs, and goals. My aim is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, build self-awareness, and make meaningful changes at a pace that works for you.

I was drawn to Michelle based on her profile as it was very detailed. I felt from reading it that she has a structured approach, and after meeting with her, I was not disappointed. I am glad to have found the right counselor for me who will have the difficult conversations with me.

She has challenged me and given me a different way of thinking. She saw things that I didn’t see in myself. I want to do the hard work to be a better person
